RoadNats will be back in 2023

Road Nationals

The AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships will be the first major cycling Championships of the 2022 cycling year with the five-day festival of cycling locked in for January 12-16.

#RoadNats22 will bring in the new year as one of Victoria’s first major events of 2022 and is set to attract thousands of Australia’s best cyclists and enthusiastic cycling fans to Ballarat and the surrounding region.

Schedule Summary

In all, more than 100 national champions will be crowned in the criterium, road race and time trial in the categories of elite, para-cycling, under 23, under 19, intellectually impaired and deaf in addition to Gran Fondo, club teams and masters national championship events.

#RoadNats22 will open on Wednesday, January 12 at Federation University’s Mt Helen campus where the race against the clock, the time trial, will take centre stage for two days.

The action returns to the streets of the Ballarat CBD on Friday for high octane criterium action which will culminate with the world’s best under lights on Sturt Street.

The Championships will once again take over the iconic Mt Buninyong road race circuit for a weekend of road racing action across all categories, including the McDonald’s Gran Fondo, which will continue to act as the National Gran Fondo Championships, which gives amateur cyclists the chance to tackle the iconic Mt Buninyong climb head on in the road race.

Entries for all events are now open with AusCycling to announce more opportunities for riders, fans and spectators to experience the full thrill of the Championships.

AusCycling will continue to work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and the City of Ballarat to ensure that the Championships will provide a safe COVID-19 environment for all.

AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner

“We are excited that the AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships will be one of Australia’s first major sporting events of 2022.

“As the country emerges from COVID lockdowns, it is events like these that bring the community back together and importantly support our economic recovery. The opportunity for our elite to get back to racing and showcase not only the depth of our talent, but the great sport of road cycling will be a welcome start to the year.

“Road Nationals will bring thousands of members, cyclists, fans, event staff and volunteers from across the country to regional Victoria for what will be one of the biggest Championships in history.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Ballarat in January.”

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Daniel Moloney

“Ballarat is once again proud to host the AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships for the 16th successive year. This event always provides a massive economic boost to the city while also showcasing beautiful Ballarat to an international broadcast audience in more than 40 countries.

“The City of Ballarat has a fantastic relationship with Aus Cycling that has prospered since 2007. I would also like to thank Ballarat residents and business owners who have always provided terrific support to this event, which will no doubt kickstart a fantastic 2022 for the region.”
