Learn From World-Leading Sports Scientists in Free RoadNats Seminar Series

As part of the 2023 Federation University Road National Championships, AusCycling and Federation University are pleased to offer a series of free online seminars with world-leading sport scientists and practitioners.

Our presenters will discuss a range of topics, focusing on the practical applications of sport science for cycling.

This series is a must for any aspiring cyclist, coach, or administrator who’d like to learn more about improving performance and creating high-quality performance environments.

Tim Gabbett
Professor Tim Gabbett

In a recent study of eight million scientists published in PLoS Biology, Professor Tim Gabbett was named in the top-25 most impactful sports scientists of all time. He has more than 25 years of experience in applied sport science, having worked with elite international athletes over several Olympic Games cycles.

Tim holds a PhD in Human Physiology and a second PhD in Applied Sport Science with special reference to physical demands, injury prevention, and skill acquisition, and has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and presented at over 400 national and international conferences.

Tim continues to work as an advisor for several high-performance organisations around the world, consulting with athletes and coaches across a wide variety of sports.

Session 2: Insights into optimising para-cycling performance from the lab to the podium.

Dr Ryan Worn and Nick Owen

Nick Owen is a high-performance sports scientist and cycling coach with successful experience in preparing athletes for international one-day races and Grand Tours including the Tour de France, as well as successfully preparing riders for Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Olympic Games both in able-bodied and para-athlete categories.

Nick has extensive experience in elite sport and is presently the Olympic Fast Track Paralympic Manager & Coach for the Australian Cycling Team, and previously held the position of lead sport scientist at the Victorian Institute of Sport.

Dr Ryan Worn is a lecturer in exercise and sport science at Federation University, specialising in high-performance athlete physiology and biomechanics. Ryan is an active racing cyclist and coach with success coaching athletes to a national level, including representation at world championships in road, track, and BMX cycling.

Lynne Munro
Dr Lynne Munro

Dr Lynne Munro is a high-performance people and environment developer who creates exceptional performance ecosystems and environments that ensure people and teams can truly step out.

By delivering world-beating performance plans and implementing system-shifting performance programs and interventions, Lynne has developed the foundations of successful practice that led national teams and athletes to World Championship- and World Cup-winning performances.

Lynne’s passion is inspiring new ways of seeing and working that help people break free from linear, conventional thinking and practice, to bring themselves and their environments to life.

Presently, Lynne is the National Sprint coach (Phased Planning and Physical Preparation, Interim) for the Australian Cycling Team, and previously was the Head of the Olympic Fast Track Program.

Toby Edwards
Dr Toby Edwards

Dr Toby Edwards is a strength and conditioning coach and researcher, interested in strength, speed, and power development.

Toby has provided extensive strength and conditioning support to national, international, and Olympic athletes in Australia and the United States across several sports, including Australian football, college basketball, college football, and track cycling.

Toby has experience as a Lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate Exercise and Sport Science disciplines including exercise prescription, functional anatomy, and biomechanics, and is presently the full-time Strength and Power Scientist for the Australian track sprint cycling team.
