Gran Fondo Australia at the Federation University Road National Championships is back in 2021. This year the top 20% of each age group will qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. 

You have the chance to tackle the iconic Mt Buninyong climb in the road race and/or race the clock in the time trial.

COVID RefUnD Policy

The AC Events’s policy for your registration, if the event is not able to be held in 2021 due to Government restrictions; participants will have the ability to transfer their registration to the rescheduled event or receive a refund. For the full COVID refund policy please refer to the Terms and Conditions below. 

Please do not show up if you are feeling unwell or have any symptoms, call us on 0448248945 and we can arrange a transfer to next year’s Gran Fondo.

Time Trial Faq's

Time Trail:  Riders will be provided with an individual start time which will be posted online on the Road Nationals website on the live results site, please make your way to the start line 10 minutes prior. The first rider will be sent off at 9:15am with the final rider leaving at 10:55am. You will be sent a message with you start time and you will be required to arrive 10 minutes 10 minutes before the start. Due to Covid-19 restrictions you will not be allowed in the starting area before your allocated time. 

If you miss your allocated time you will be able to start the event, but your start time will be moved to the end and you will be the last rider to depart.

The winner of the time trial is the rider who completes the course in the fastest time per age group

Yes, you will have an active transponder chip which you must return when you finish your race.

No, you will only receive your Road Race pack if you registered before the 11th of January, you must pick up your Time Trail rider pack on the 3rd Feb Wednesday 2021 – please see Road race Faqs for more information on postage.

No, for the Time trail you will have active transponder chip which you must return when you finish your race. For the Road Race you will be given a passive sticker RFID transponder.

Road Race FAQ's

On the day registration for Road Race will be available ONLINE ONLY up until 4:00pm Saturday 6th February, 2021.  

Only for the Road Race. If you have registered before 11th of January 2021 your rider pack will be sent to you. Delivery is free of charge!

If you forgot to bring your participant pack you must visit rego on Friday 5th from National Gran Fondo Registration Marquee on Warrenheip Street to get a new transponder. Please note you will be charged a fee of $15.

Please alert us before Monday 1st of February, Call us on our office phone 03 9896 2050 or Gran Fondo phone 0448 248 945 or send an email to eventservices@gtrevents.com.au and you won’t be charged a fee. You must then see registration at the times suggested below.

Gran Fondo Australia participants will be able to collect their Rider Pack in Ballarat from 2pm to on Friday 5th February at the Criterium Registration Marquee on Dawson Street  South. Alternatively, at the National Gran Fondo Registration Marquee on Sturt Street from 2pm – 4pm on Saturday, 6th February.

Riders will be asked to group up in their age group on Eyre St 20 minutes before race start. Once the U23 mens race is completed you will be called forward to the start line to be sent off.

You will be required to start in your age group to be eligible to qualify for the UCI world Championships. If you miss this start you will still be able to roll around the course but will be considered a recreational rider and will not be given a time.

The winners of each age category will be awarded based on who completes the distance of the 5 laps in the fastest time. If all riders in an age category do not complete 5 laps before the prescribed time then it is the quickest on the previous lap finish that decide the winners of each category.

Team winners is calculated from your teams overall time of the three fastest and the combined distance at the quickest time will be awarded for the following combined age group categories in both Men, Women and mixed. Please note no medals or jerseys will be awarded only prizes.

60+, 90+, 120+, 150+

All changes must be done by the 28th of January – we will not be accepting changes or any new registrations for teams after this date. If you need to change a team member before this date please email eventservices@gtrevents.com.au
